Addressing challenges faced by farmers for a Sustainable Future
Dadugba Cooperative is a pioneering, farmer-owned enterprise dedicated to fostering sustainable and equitable cocoa value chains in Sierra Leone. With a membership exceeding 2,000 farmers across three Chiefdoms, we build farmer capacity through specialized workshops and seed funding, focusing on both high-yield and environmentally conscious cultivation methods. Our strategic focus is the production of exceptional, unconventional (premium-grade) cocoa beans, which we directly leverage to secure high-value access to the global market on behalf of our members.
Cocoa production is the primary economic driver and a key strategy for poverty reduction in Kailahun District, Eastern Sierra Leone, with nearly every household managing at least one acre of cultivated cocoa farm. However, farmers face significant livelihood instability due to two main systemic challenges: unproductive, low-yielding farms and limited access to competitive, high-value markets for their cocoa beans.
